How Do I Know If My Hair Transplant Was Successful?
28 Aug 2023
The health of the transplanted hair from the donor area to the recipients is crucial to the success of the hair transplant. Typically, the results of a hair transplant are visible between six and nine months after the procedure. Some patients exhibit improvements slowly, sometimes after a year. Patients should be advised that the newly transplanted hair typically falls out two to eight weeks after surgery. A beard is great for a hair transplant. If available, hair from other regions of the body, such as the arm, underarm, pubic region, thigh, and legs, is used. Women typically have unpredictable hair patterns, whereas men have steady hair patterns.
The major criteria to consider for a successful hair transplant are the quality clinic, the type of treatment chosen based on the level of hair loss, and, last but not least, the entire process is done completely, depending on the surgeon. The success rate is also affected by how and what precautions we take in accordance with the doctor's recommendations. The factors influencing Hair transplant success rate are listed below.
Taking Care during Downtime is essential
The first 24 hours after surgery are critical, since the patient is instructed not to engage in strenuous physical activity. Patients can resume normal activities after eight weeks. It is only a temporary phase for a permanent long-term solution, and the person may be concerned about the consequences, which is perfectly normal. It takes a little longer to regain enough confidence to resume routine activities after a hair transplant.
Avoiding intense activities
The first 72 hours following a hair transplant procedure are critical for recuperation. Most doctors recommend avoiding exercise and other vigorous activities (such as bending at the waist, running, and sit-ups) for about two weeks following the hair transplant because they increase blood flow to the scalp, which is undesirable for newly transplanted hair. Any physical activity that raises blood pressure on the scalp and causes sweating should be avoided during this time. Yoga and other gentle exercises can be substituted. It is best to avoid any sort of weight training, bodybuilding, or cardio exercises for at least 3-7 days before surgery.
Washing should be avoided for the first 72 hours after the operation to allow the scalp time to heal. After the specified time, wash the hair gently with a light shampoo. Simply place a few drops of shampoo in a cup, add water, and shake well to create a lather before applying to the scalp and gently rinsing with clean water. It is preferable to avoid showering under the spray.
Avoid wearing helmets or any headwear
It is best to avoid wearing a hat for a few days following surgery. After a week, the person can start wearing loose headwear. After the extra five days, the patient can wear any hat.
Avoid drinking and smoking
Drinking alcohol before the healing period can reduce the blood supply to the surgically implanted hair grafts. In short, it leads to a catastrophic finale after the system. Nicotine (smoking) should be avoided for a few days before and after the procedure, as directed by the surgeon.
Every transplanted hair graft requires oxygen and all of the nutrients it contains. The nicotine prevents the hair grafts from receiving all of the nutrients required by the blood vessels. Smoking might slow the healthy growth of transplanted hair and slow down the recovery process, hence interrupts with showing the signs of a successful hair transplant.
Avoid scraping or scratching
During the healing phase, the person experiences itching but does not scratch because the freshly implanted hair follicle is still delicate and may likely fall out. Doctors recommend applying Vaseline to relieve itching. It's best to avoid direct sunlight for a few weeks after surgery.
Most individuals overlook the fact that drinking water at regular intervals hydrates the body and hair, which both need to be hydrated (especially newly implanted hair). For a few weeks, the person should set a reminder to drink at least 10% more water in order to shorten hair transplant recovery time.
After the third or fourth day following the treatment, an ice pack can be applied to minimize edoema, which may occur. Ice should be applied to the forehead beneath the grafts rather than on the grafts themselves.
It is best to avoid fast food because it is high in empty nutrients and calories. To grow thick, silky, sleek, strong, and beautiful hair, newly implanted hair needs a lot of nutrients. If the person's diet is lacking in nutrients, it is best to incorporate food supplements such as calcium, magnesium, plenty of protein, iron, vitamin B6, and zinc.
