Chin Surgery
Chin reshaping surgery is carried out on both men and women who feel that their chin looks too large or too small and not in proportion to the rest of their face. Well defined facial features and natural angles that are proportionate create balance in your face and a more attractive appearance. If the structure of your chin is disproportionate—it can affect your self-image. If you are bothered by your chin, chin reshaping may benefit you. Chin reshaping surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.
Chin Reshaping Procedure
The two main types of chin reshaping surgery procedures are either chin augmentation or chin reduction.
Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation surgery is usually performed by placement of an implant directly on the bone to increase the size and shape of a chin that does not project in proportion with the forehead and mid-face. A small incision is made either inside the mouth or underneath the skin of the chin. After the implant is placed, the incision is then closed with sutures. Mild swelling may occur for a few days, and patients usually are able to resume normal duties within a week.
Chin Reduction Surgery
Chin reduction surgery, or chin shaving surgery, is performed to reduce a prominent or over projected chin. The surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure. A small incision is made either inside the mouth or underneath the skin of the chin. Excess bone is removed, and the chin is contoured to the desired shape. The incision is closed with sutures. This procedure especially helps women with a strong jaw line to achieve a more balanced, delicate, and feminine look.
Chin Reshaping is considered a permanent way to improve the balance and symmetry of your face and harmonize your overall facial profile.
