Male Hair Transplantation

Male Hair Transplant

Although a natural part of the aging process for millions of men, hair loss can be psychologically distressing. There are a number of options for the treatment of male pattern baldness which can slow down, and even delay, the progression of hair loss, but a hair transplant procedure is the most effective and longest lasting treatment option.

What is a Hair Transplant?

A hair transplant is a proven, minimally invasive surgical procedure in which follicular unit grafts, consisting of a small number of hair follicles, are individually removed from the genetically stronger areas of your scalp. First, the surgeon will harvest ‘donor’ follicles from one part of your scalp, such as the back of your head, which is genetically resistant to balding. Depending on your needs, typically, 1,000 to 2,000 – and up to 4,000 – hair follicles are transplanted per session, which takes several hours. A hair transplantation procedure is primarily used to treat male pattern baldness.

Types of Hair Transplant

The types of hair transplant that are available today are wide ranging, with the two main procedures being:

Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT)

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a technique referred to as Single Strip Harvesting; the technique involves incising a strip of tissue from the donor site containing follicular units before carefully transplanting them to the recipient or balding area.

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)

FUE is an advanced hair transplant method that extracts individual hairs from the donor area to be carefully placed and planted into the recipient area. The relocated follicles will then keep growing naturally. FUE is more intensive for the surgeon; but less invasive and painful for the patient and it also requires less downtime.

DNCC provides the FUE hair transplant method

At DNCC we provide the FUE hair transplant method as it is minimally-invasive; leaving few signs that a surgical procedure has been performed, and allows a person to keep their hair very short or shaved. FUE is performed under local anaesthetic, and has little discomfort, even when large sessions are performed. There is no need for stitches and recovery time is fast, allowing our patients to resume their normal lifestyle with little or no inconvenience.
